His first film, Amores perros, premiered in the year 2000 and was a box-office hit, with an Oscar nomination to Best Foreign Film. After his teenage years he moved to London to attend the Central School of Speech and Drama, where he would start his Drama studies and would make his first appearances in short films, such as De tripas corazón in 1996. His television debut took place in 1989, when he was only 11. He started his acting career in small theater plays.
He has starred in films in Mexico, United States, Argentina, Spain, Chile, Bolivia, France and Brazil: six of them have been nominated to the Oscars. Mexican actor, producer and director, winner of a Golden Globe for his role in the series Mozart in the Jungle.
